YA Fest: Favorite YA authors? Illustrators you admire?
Demitria Lunetta: So many! I love Margo Lanagan and Garth Nix…who coincidentally are both Australian. Also my amazing crit partners Mindy McGinnis and Kate Karyus Quinn.  Let’s see…also, Elizabeth Fama, Holly Black, Carrie Ryan, Beth Revis, Ursula K. LeGuin…there really are too many to list!

YA Fest: Favorite YA books from the past year (2014/2015)?
Demitria: Okay, in addition to anything written by those above, my top 5 are – LOVE IS THE DRUG by Alaya Dawn Johnson, TIME’S EDGE by Ryssa Walker, NOVA by Margaret Fortune, ALIVE by Scott Sigler, and DEATH SWORN by Leah Cypess

YA Fest: How/why did you start writing?
Demitria:I’ve always wanted to be a writer. When I was younger I wrote short, strange stories…now I write long strange stories. 🙂

YA Fest: One piece of advice for young writers?
Demitria: READ!!!

YA Fest: What are you currently working on?  (Give us your elevator pitch!)
Demitria: My next full length YA novel is called BAD BLOOD and will release Spring 2017 with Delacourte. It’s about a a 16-year-old girl haunted by dreams and compelled to cut herself until she discovers a family secret and a past full of magic that could save her or put her in mortal danger…and it takes place in Scotland!

YA Fest: Are your characters/stories inspired by real people/events?
Demitria: No…I tend to write sci-fi/paranormal/post-apocalyptic.
